The plan of quarantine response to 2018 Hajj participants in Saudi Arabia

Abstract
|

|
In order to prevent Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) from entering the country, special quarantine for Middle East entrants is underway. We also implement strict quarantine for participants of the annual Islamic holy place pilgrimage, which is the biggest religious event of Islam. In 2017, a total of 448 people (Korean 9, foreign nationals 439) attended the Islamic holy Hajj event, of which 396 (88.4%) entered Korea and 52 (11.6%) returned to their countries. At the quarantine stage, 86 cases of symptoms with fever and cough, and 7 suspected cases were classified.
The Centers for Infectious Disease Control will have a list of pilgrims prior to the 2018 Hajj event and will implement special
quarantine (one-on-one body temperature measurement and health status questionnaire) for participants who will be able
to enter Korea at the end of the event. In addition, after entry into the domestic area, the entrants will be informed via short
message service of the symptoms of infectious diseases, and the hospital will be provided with a list of entrants from the
Middle East to prevent the inflow of MERS.
